The Paricutin Volcano

The Wonder of the World that I chose to write about is
the Paricutin Volcano. This volcano was born on a Mexican
cornfield in Michoacan, Mexico on February 20,1943. The
volcano is no longer living and also it gave science the once
in a lifetime chance to study an amazing volcano. Which is
why the Paricutin Volcano is a World Wonder.

During the Paricutin Volcano's lifetime it had a rapid
growth throughout its whole life. The next morning after
the volcano had grown, the cone had already rose 30 ft.
Then later that day it grew another 120 ft. During the night
the cone blew bombs of lava more than 1,000 ft. into the
sky and massive river of lava rolled over the cornfields.
Within a week the Paricutin's cone had reached 500 ft! By
year's end the Paricutin Volcano had grown to a hieght of
about 900 ft. The Paricutin Volcano also had monsterous
eruptions and explosions. The volcano is the

only one of several hundred in the area that erupted
during historic times. The worst eruption took place in
1943, when lava was rising as low as 50 ft. from its
rim. Then one of the Paricutin Volcano's last major
eruptions killed about 1,000 people. On February
25, 1952 the Paricutin Volcano died in an instant.

Now, in the year of 2009, the Paricutin Volcano
came into the world the same way it went out- with a
sudden surprise. The volcano now stands 1,345 ft. and

hasn't grown a foot since then. The Paricutin Volcano is
in its final resting place 200 miles west of Mexico City
in the state of Michoacan, Mexico. I think that no one in
Paricutin ever forgot this incredibly, amazing volcano.

The Paricutin Volcano had a crazy and magnificant
life. This is probably to me the most interesting
subject I have ever studied in my life. I now know
why this volcano is so important- it wasn't the
damage that it did that made it significant, it
was that the Paricutin Volcano gave science the
opportunity to study something that can only
come once in a lifetime. This is why the Paricutin
Volcano is one of the Wonders of the World.
